About
The Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering is a research-oriented, two-year degree program that is administered by the Department of Engineering in the College of Engineering and Technology. The program has two focus areas of research ? advanced energy systems in which research includes sustainable and efficient energy systems, wind-energy, ocean wave energy generation and storage, energy harvesting, and energy transport and conversion processes; and mechanics of biomaterials in which research includes mechanical behavior of structural tissues, cellular materials, metals for medical implants and biological tissues. Students are prepared for employment in a variety of areas of industry, and the program provides training and research experience for students who are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or related fields.
ECU Advantage
At ECU, every engineering faculty member is dedicated to the excellence of our program and the success of our students. The program emphasizes technical knowledge and analytical thought processes as well as people and business skills. Our program focuses on collaborative learning in which students learn to work in teams to solve problems; activity-based learning in which theory is put into practice with projects and hands-on activities; project management that goes beyond technical skills and helps students land jobs in business and industry; and small labs and class sizes where students develop close relationships with the engineering faculty.
